Lady Parts Opera Workshop

  • The United Church 1920 G Street Northwest Washington, DC, 20006 United States (map)

Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte is one of the most produced and performed operas of all time. With sublime music, a timeless story, and a ton of great roles, it is an operatic favorite for many. PVI is excited to announce Lady Parts, our winter opera workshop for singers to learn, coach, stage, and perform a complete role from Die Zauberflöte.

Singers will audition for this project and must commit to the intensive week long coaching and staging period leading up to performance in early February. We will be casting three complete trios of Ladies as well as 2 Taminos, 2 Papagenos, a Monostatos, and a Queen of the Night to round out the ensembles. The Ladies will learn, coach and stage the entire role, and each trio will perform one of the large ensembles on the final concert.

Singers cast in this project will collaborate with an international team of artists including conductor Christopher Ocasek (WNO, San Francisco, Yerevan State Opera) stage director Julia Mintzer (WNO, Semperoper, Theater Aachen), German diction coach Nils Neubert (The Juilliard School, MSM, Mannes) and vocal coaches Wei-Han Wu and Patrick O’Donnell.

The cost of the workshop for the Ladies is $800 and includes:
A minimum of 10 hours of musical coaching
A minimum of 10 hours of staging rehearsal
A minimum of 2 hours of German diction coaching
A final staged, concert performance

The cost of the workshop for the other roles is $250 and includes:
